All Saints
Bible Text: Rev 7:9-17 | Pastor: Vicar Benjamin Hayter | Series: All Saints Day | On the All Saints Day, we celebrate the lives and deaths of those who have gone before us in the faith, and we hear in our Gospel reading, from Jesus’ own mouth, what kind of people his servants were and are. They are the poor in spirit, the ones who mourn, the meek, and those who hunger and thirst for God to save them. These are no happy descriptors and they apply to saints of old just as well as us. We do not have to look far to see that this is the case. And still, Jesus called us all “Blessed.” How can this be? It is not because we are good at being poor, or sad, or meek, or hungry, but because we have the promise of those things being done away with forever. To His saints belongs the kingdom of heaven. They will be comforted. They shall inherit the earth. They shall be satisfied. Come quickly Lord, that this may be fully realized.
