“New Rules”

Series:
Passage: Matt 18:21-35

Bible Text: Matt 18:21-35 | Pastor: Vicar Benjamin Hayter | Series: Lord’s Prayer | This weekend we continue our study of prayer, focusing on the prayer that Jesus taught us, the Lord’s Prayer. We zero in today on “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Each petition comes with its own challenges, but this one can be particularly difficult for sinful people to pray. Everything in our society is transactional. Debts must be paid, promises must be kept, and offenses must be paid for in some way, but in this petition, we locate our lives within the mercy that God has given us in Christ. Since we have been forgiven, we can go against our own nature and forgive our neighbors who sin against us.
